My meeting with Edhi Sunarso for a video project in 2015 has made me learn about how the historical dioramas made by him are actually inseparable from the collective work of historians. Historians are the parties responsible in making instructions (called draaiboek); which became the artist’s first point of reference when making historical dioramas. Today, there is still one empty diorama case left at The National Monument in Jakarta, and to fill it: I would like to put forward a proposal for the making of a diorama relating to the events of 1998 in Indonesia. To achieve that – as with Edhi Sunarso: I also wish to gain assistance from historians.
