SHARING ANXIETIES
MULTI CHANNEL HD VIDEO , 2015
I am working on a project involving 5-10 housewives to attend an audition cast for a TV advertisement, and this advertisement aims to provide a variety of information that is not much known by many people about the palm oil industry. Housewives' position in the project is considered crucial because they hold important roles that determine consumption patterns within a family. While-in fact, many of them do not understand the connection between consumption and the environmental impact over the consumption choices.
Using different narratives, this video appropriates and deconstruct the methods and the creative process used by advertising agencies. In other words—this audition took exactly the same format as the audition process of an actual production of an advertisement, and every housewife were asked to articulate the script that has been made by a copywriter.
Before I start exploring this project, so many things that I did not know about this topic. I conclude that, as citizens: we are not so critical to think about an alternate solutions of a shared problems simply because we do not understand the existence of the problem, and therefore many of us don't share the same anxieties. Especially those living in big cities and far from the reality of palm oil plantations.
Through the literature research from a variety of sources that have made me understood better about the topic of my project: I realize that in fact, the accumulation of information I gained from this action is not actually much known by others, except to those who are eager to also find out. So in this project I wish to share this experience and (perhaps anxiety?) with others. The more people know various problems about the palm oil industry, the more likely this problem can continue to be discussed in sequence.
